According come a facebook post, “Agnes” is Dave Bayley’s favorite track on How to it is in a human Being.

Each track on the album is stood for by among the personalities on the cover; native the band’s official “mood board” we learn that Agnes is “a boy, male, 20s, Indian” and also “probably resides in a loft apartment”. He is the man holding several cameras, pictured on the centre of the album cover.

there space varying levels of autobiography and also my own life in each tune i write…but for the most part, that stuff is buried and also clouded in fiction or combined with various other peoples’ lives that i have heard about in taxis or at next or on the street. Yet there is one tune that stands apart from the rest. That is the many truthful, honest, and personal story i have ever written. And that track is ‘Agnes’.as soon as i began writing it i knew it would be the album closer. The lyrics came out rather quickly and then i spent a while fitting in recommendations to time and also life and also its herbal cycle. Weeks, minutes, seconds, birth, breaths, death…etc. I tried to push those themes into the music too…with recurring loops, lullaby melodies, and synths the pull up and down and in all different directions at the exact same time. It was a hard one come record, and the only method i could get the vocal right was to document it through the vocal mic held close in my hands alone in a tiny room and also finish it simply as intimately together it started. I regularly get asked in interviews “which is her favourite monitor on the album”….and my reply is constantly “don’t be ridiculous….i might never choose….that’s like picking a favourite child.” yet i’m not sure that ring true anymore. Agnes is the one. It’s my favourite tune on the record, and the saddest track i will ever write. Probably. I hope you choose it.Big Love,Dave

While Bayley and the rest of the tape were initially vague around the song’s subject, an NME article around subsequent album Dreamland made that clear that the tune is about a girlfriend of the band who died by suicide.
