You are watching: Why is second life banned from twitch

Please take a moment to consider if this thread is worth bumping.

I know that Twitch bans SL streams into Twitch, but, is there any kind of ban that doesn"t allow streaming a twitch stream into SL via a media screen?

You can"t show Second Life on Twitch because Twitch doesn"t allow it.

Twitch doesn"t care where their streams are being watched, nor does Linden Lab care.

But is it even possible? I managed to stream video via YouTube in a beta of the SL viewer at one point, but have never managed to stream Twitch into SL. I would love to know how to do it if it can be done!

Good point. LL came out with a project viewer that could handle YouTube streaming. Did that ever make it into the release viewer?

Yeah Twitch doesn"t allow second life because of the "A" content that is not allowed on the Twitch platform. You can stream to facebook or Youtube but make sure it isn"t "A" content that is for Adults.

Understood. But my question is about getting Twitch streams INTO Second Life for viewing in SL, not for viewing SL in Twitch.

One sets a URL on a Second Life hosted entity such as Parcel Media or Shared Media, also called Media on a Prim, that a Second Life Viewer then uses to play the streams locally. That local playback is entirely dependent upon the capabilities of the Second Life Viewer you are running. LL has provided, within their own viewer, the abilities of the Chromium Embedded Framework (CEF), which does indeed play many types of media streams into a memory buffer that the Second Life Viewer then renders in a 2D window or on a surface in 3D space as described by where the URL is applied.

Suggestion, launch Second Life Viewer. Do not login. Pull down the Debug menu and select Media Browser. Use the 2D browser window that appears to try the media you wish to play. This will tell you if it will play when put on Parcel Media or Shared Media (MoaP). I do not use Twitch so I will not be trying it. I can say I have watched picarto.tv via CEF in the Second Life Viewer and that worked fine. I have also watched YouTube via CEF in the Second Life Viewer.
