DETROIT (WLS) -- The Michigan Humane Society is offering a $11,200 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for brutally disfiguring a Rottweiler.The dog, who has been named Baron, was found on Detroit"s Southwest Side on Tuesday after a concerned citizen called the humane society.
Baron"s nose and ears were viciously removed. He was also found with lacerations to his tail and back legs, the humane society said.One of the society"s lead cruelty investigators said "it appears that someone purposely maimed this poor dog, which has caused it a great deal of suffering."Humane society officials shared an update on Baron"s health on Facebook Live Thursday morning.
His veterinarian said he is doing "remarkably well considering his injuries," but remains on antibiotics and pain medication to keep him comfortable. While he continues to heal, the veterinarian said reconstructive surgery may be an option."His prognosis is great, he"s going to find an incredible home after his long road to recovery," said Matthew Pepper, Michigan Humane Society president and CEO.Humane society officials said they are canvassing the area where Barron was found and putting up flyers. So far, they have received an "overwhelming" number of tips from the public.
